WHAT’S THE GAME PLAN?
Lessons from 100k Followers: How You Can Do It Too
I want to start off by saying thank you to everyone who has followed the page and has helped us get to where we are now.
We officially hit 100k followers on IG.
A special thank you also goes to those who have followed since it started back in 2018 when it was called “OOTD Athletes.” Today’s newsletter reflects on some of the lessons I’ve learned from reaching this milestone.
As always, I want to give you something useful that you can apply to your own journey.
It took me 5 years to get here, but you can do it in less time.
Here are 3 things I learned from reaching 100k
and how you can do it too: ⬇️
1.DOUBLE DOWN ON WHAT WORKS
For a long time, I was only posting about sports fashion and what players were wearing. The purpose of the page was to showcase athlete fashion; after all, it was called OOTD Athletes. Over time, I noticed that page engagement was down and it felt stuck. I also wasn’t enjoying the content I was putting out as much as I did in the beginning.
Then, one year, I tried something new: I posted quotes along with photos of athletes training. I did a few of these posts, and people seemed to like them, but I didn’t keep up with this type of content.
After some time, I decided to post it again. When someone commented, “My favorite posts are back,” I realized that people were really paying attention and actually enjoyed that type of motivational content. So, I decided to double down and be more consistent with that type of content.
If it wasn’t for me paying attention to that comment, I probably would have continued posting athletes' outfits with zero motivation and interest, or I might have stopped posting on the page entirely.
Pay close attention to what your community enjoys and engages with. Use polls in your stories, gather feedback through DMs, and carefully read their comments to understand their likes, dislikes, and the type of content they want to see from you.
2.CONSISTENCY
Just like when you go to your favorite restaurant for the dish you love, people follow your page because they like what you share and know what type of content to expect. When I don’t post on time, I often get DMs asking where the Friday and Monday posts are if I haven’t yet shared them. Think of your channel or content like a TV show: people look forward to it and know when to expect it.
Set a regular schedule for your posts and stick to it. Be consistent to keep them engaged with the content they enjoy from you.
3.WHAT DOES MY CONTENT DO FOR OTHERS?
Are you creating content for yourself or for others? If it’s just for you, then honestly, post whatever you want. But if you’re looking to grow, you have to think about what your content does for others.
The key word is value. Value is what’s going to help you grow. Value can mean teaching something, creating a certain feeling, bringing back memories, or making someone feel seen or heard. Does your content make people laugh or smile? Does it inspire them to achieve something or keep going?
Before posting, ask yourself, "What value does this bring to my audience?" If you’re looking to grow, make sure your content offers something that others can connect with or benefit from.
That’s it. That’s the game plan for this week.
I hope this helps motivate you on your content journey.
Remember, 1% better every day, and small wins are WINS!
