WHAT’S THE GAME PLAN?
Why You Need to Do 100 Reps

I was looking at my notebook from last year and found an interesting note I wrote on September 5, 2023. I can’t remember what I was thinking at the time, but I might’ve been reflecting on this newsletter. I’m now on newsletter number 43, but back then, I told myself I wouldn’t fully judge my work until I hit 100. It’s tough not to judge myself, though. Are people even reading? Am I giving value? Am I just talking to myself?

As I get closer to my goal of 100, I want to share something that’s helped me: the Law of 100. I first heard it on a podcast with Noah Kagan. If you haven’t checked him out, I recommend his videos—they’re super inspiring. Today’s game plan is inspired by his thoughts on productivity.

Here’s the note I wrote to myself in my notebook:
"You’re going to suck. The reality is, the first 100 of anything you do will probably suck. It’s the Law of 100. You have to give yourself permission to not be so good. It’s okay. Just try to get 1% better every day."

This applies to anything. We often expect to be great after just a few tries, but that’s not realistic.

When you start something new, it’s easy to get caught up in results. Are people paying attention? Is it worth the effort? But what really matters is showing up consistently and putting in the work.
That’s where the Rule of 100 comes in. It’s all about doing something 100 times before you start judging the outcome.

This idea from Noah Kagan has been a game changer for me. The goal is simple: commit to 100 reps. Whether you're writing, creating, or learning something new, it’s not about being perfect right away—it’s about getting better little by little.

Think of it like leveling up in a game—there’s a big difference between someone on level 1 and someone on level 100. If you focus too much on the results, it can be discouraging. Instead, just concentrate on reaching the next level. If you’re on level 11, focus on getting to level 12. Levels 20, 30, and 40 will come with time.

For example, this newsletter has 2,312 subscribers. Could there be more? Sure. But the main focus isn’t about the numbers—it’s about hitting 100 newsletters. After that, I can fine-tune things like the design or finding more ways to share it. If I had focused on the subscriber count from the start, I might’ve quit already.

This idea can work for anything you do:
Create 100 pieces of content.
Write 100 pages of a book.
Take 100 pictures.
Record 100 podcast episodes.
Practice something for 100 hours.
You get the point.

Okay, enough of my yapping.

Here are 3 tips I learned from Noah Kagan to help stick to 100 reps: ⬇️

1.REWARD YOURSELF

I treat myself to my favorite coffee drink before sitting down to write the newsletter. Find a small reward that makes your process more enjoyable. For example, if you're starting a running routine, maybe consider getting yourself some new sneakers or some new gear to boost your motivation.

2.PICK A DAY

I committed to sending the newsletter on Mondays, twice a month. Sticking to a schedule helps me stay consistent. If you’re going to start your 100 reps of anything, try picking a day. Having a set day makes it easier to stay on track than if you don’t have a clear plan.

3.SET UP A SYSTEM

Have you noticed how the Ball Club newsletter always follows the same outline? That’s my system. Having a structure helps me stay productive and consistent. Athletes have training routines—Kobe Bryant had his 666 routine. He had his system and stuck to it.
Imagine waking up with no plan—it would be stressful. Systems create order and make it easier to hit your reps.

That’s it. That’s the game plan for this week.
I hope this helps you get started on your 100 reps or motivates you to keep going if you already started them.
