WHAT’S THE GAME PLAN?
ACHIEVE MORE: UNLOCK YOUR RETURN ON EFFORT

There’s no getting time back. When we make an investment that involves money, we sometimes ask ourselves, 'What is the return on investment of this?' But when it comes to time and energy, why don’t we consider the return on investment of our time and effort?

Today’s game plan is all about our ROE (return on effort). 

Here are three ways to ensure you are maximizing your ROE ⬇️

1.What is the ROE of this action?

When consuming anything (content on social media, books, podcasts, etc.), ask yourself this: Will this provide value for me? Will it inspire, educate, or challenge me? If not, it might not be the best use of my time. I was watching a YouTube video where the guest mentioned that he always asks himself if the piece of content he’s listening to is going to help him achieve his goal of creating more content. If the answer is no, he doesn’t watch or listen to it.

Of course, sometimes we watch things for pure entertainment. But if we are truly serious about our goals, we know that there’s no time to waste on things that don’t bring us closer to them.

2. WORK SMARTER, NOT HARDER

I’m sure you’ve heard this quote before. Sometimes, we tend to overcomplicate tasks. Does this thing really take one hour to do? Or is there an easier way I can get this done? Ask yourself, am I doing the most important thing right now, or am I doing something that only appears to be the most important? Sometimes we find ourselves doing empty work. Empty work are tasks that may seem productive but aren’t actually moving us forward.

A quick example of this is scrolling through newsletter designs when, in reality, what I need to do is finish writing the newsletter. Do I need a new newsletter design? Yes, maybe. But is it at the top of my to-do list right now? No. Sometimes, we just need to be honest with ourselves about what’s important in the now.

3.HOW CAN MAKE THE MOST OF THIS TIME?

Sometimes, we think we're not getting things done or getting closer to our goals because we 'don't have enough time.' But really, it's not that we don’t have time, it’s that we aren’t using our time wisely. I heard this idea from a podcast, where he mentioned that sometimes we wish for more time when we don’t even have control over the time that we have now. If we don’t get work done in 2 hours, what makes us think that having an extra 6 will solve our problems? Listening to that part really got me thinking.

Ask yourself, if I only have two hours to work on my goals, what are the main things I need to do to get one step closer to them?

One way to see if your time was well-spent today is to write down 5-10 main things you did during the day today besides your work and mark how many helped reach your goals. I did this myself and found that only 2 out of 5 things I did today moved me closer to my goal. Interesting.

This made me realize that sometimes we do things because they're a part of our routine, but not because they are actually helping us reach our goals.

That’s it. That’s the game plan. Time is our most valuable asset. There’s no getting it back. Use it wisely.
