QUOTE OF THE WEEK

WHAT’S THE GAME PLAN?
Language Matters: Change Your Language, Change Your Life

What separates great from good? Could it be our language?
I think so.
Language is powerful.
Even changing the way you say one word can be the deciding factor on achieving a goal or not.
I was recently thinking about how Kanye West sometimes talks in third person. And then I remembered, LeBron James has done it as well.
The quote I used above was from when LeBron James made the decision to go to the Heat.
This got me thinking, there must be a reason for this. So I then went into a rabbit hole of looking into this and what I found was interesting.
Basically, what I found was that many articles suggest talking to yourself in the third person can help you see things from a different angle, which can make it easier to make good decisions and boost your confidence.
Today’s game plan is all about going from “good” to “great” by simply changing your language.
Here are 3 tips for changing your language⬇️
1. Stop Using Don’t & Can’t
The way you talk to yourself can really change how you feel and see yourself.
Instead of saying, "I can't do this," try saying, "I'm capable of overcoming this challenge." Or instead of, “don’t give up” tell yourself “keep going”.
When you start using “I can’t”, that’s just an excuse.
An excuse for not wanting to put in the work.
You CAN.
2. Be Your Own Friend
Like LeBron James or Kanye, calling yourself by your own name encourages you to talk to yourself like you would talk to a friend. Sometimes we are easier on our friends than we are with ourselves. But why can’t we be that way with ourselves?
For example, imagine you're talking to friend. What would you say to them if they made a mistake? You'd probably tell them it's okay and that everyone messes up sometimes.
Instead of putting yourself down after making mistakes or slacking off, find a way to pick yourself back up and use language that encourages you to keep going.
3. Listen to Kobe on Self Negotiating
Kobe wasn’t down for negotiating with himself.
He wouldn’t talk himself out of getting the work done.
If you signed a contract with yourself, stick to it. Don’t let the little voices inside your head talk you out of being the best version of yourself.

Honestly, I know some of this may sound corny or cheesy. But the truth is,a big part of reaching our goals is all about our mindset and our language.
It’s all in how we perceive ourselves and what we believe about ourselves. It’s all in the language we use and how we talk to ourselves.
How can you expect to achieve greatness if you don’t first believe in yourself and motivate yourself?
Okay. That’s it. That’s the game plan.
Stop the negative self-talk and allow yourself to be the best version of yourself.
It all starts with your language.
Remember, 1% better every day, and small wins are WINS!
